It’s a good thing there is a week off between the BMW and the Tour Championship.
It’s a good thing for Jason Day because the world’s No. 1 did not make it through the final round of the BMW on Sunday.
It wasn’t even a swing that threw out Day’s back. At the ninth tee at Crooked Stick, Day bent over to put his tee in the ground and something popped in his back. Day’s manager Bud Martin told everyone it was a pinched joint capsule, which sounds serious but may not be that bad.
Martin said it was more “precautionary” than anything else, given that Day is assured of being in the top five heading to East Lake in two weeks.
Even with the WD and receiving no FedEx Cup points, Day stayed at the No. 4 position, falling from No. 2.
Day has experienced back problems before, he’s no stranger to that.
“Hopefully he’ll be ready for Atlanta,” Martin said.

That’s not good news, but on the other hand, he wasn’t even close, so no reason to play hurt.

Bet here is he’ll be okay but how effective he can be remains to be seen. He’s simply not playing that well right now.
