Maybe you’ve noticed the number “59” more often.
Perhaps too often.
There have already been two 59s produced on the PGA Tour in one season, second time that’s happened, first time was in 2010 (Stuart Appleby, Paul Goydos).
Justin Thomas shot his at the Sony. Adam Hadwin came up with 13 birdies at the CareerBuilder.
Jason Day, the world’s No. 1 player, says 59 isn’t high on his wish list.
“I like tougher courses that don’t yield as many birdies and you’ve got to mentally grind and try to survive,” Day said matter of factly as he heads up this week’s field at Torrey Pines where you can basically bet there won’t be a 59 on the South course and probably not on the redesigned albeit easier North course.
Day was cavalier about those 59s. “Everybody’s doing it,” he said, jokingly.
“Nothing to take away from the guys who shot 59 because that’s an unbelievable score.
“I just want to win golf tournaments.”
And that’s pretty much what this PGA Tour membership stuff is all about.
