Nice.
Nice for Bones.
When Phil Mickelson and longtime caddie Jim “Bones” Mackay jointly announced on June 20th that their 25-year partnership was ending, we immediately speculated that Bones would most likely land a television gig.
It’s now fact.
NBC and the Golf Channel have added Bones to their live golf coverage crew. Bones will do what he does best — he’ll walk and talk on the golf course. Bones could basically fill up five minutes of dead-air time when he and Lefty were debating club selection on any given golf shot around the world.
Bones has extreme on-course expertise, no debating that.
He will make his debut in two weeks at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
No more heavy golf bags to tote, some relief for Bones, who is now the recipient of not one but two knee replacements.
In addition to the Open Championship, Bones will work the President’s Cup matches along with some of the FedEx postseason playoff events.
Of course Bones was saying what an honor it is to get the gig. Most likely it’s a paycut from his Mickelson employment and perhaps these events are a “tryout” to see if they want to add Bones to the lineup for all the NBC events in 2018.
Stay tuned and in the meantime, can’t wait to hear what Bones has to say.
