Man, does this one absolutely fall under that “Be careful what you wish for….” adage.
Joe Buck was begging for Jim Nance to make an appearance on the FOX broadcast at the 119th U.S. Open. Nance lives at Pebble Beach, close to the seventh hole.
The powers to be at CBS no doubt got word of Joe Buck’s begging and probably had a conversation like this with Nance:
“Hey Jimmy, go right ahead, sit in with them and show everyone watching what a class broadcaster really sounds like. You’ll make those two bozos sound like the jack-asses that they are.”
So lo and behold, enter Jim Nance onto the broadcast Saturday afternoon and it was exactly as you’d expect.
The microphone LOVES Nance’s voice, it’s like maple syrup, smooth and flowing. Sitting there with Buck on his right and Azinger on his left, Nance dominated.
He only stayed for about 15 minutes and for one brief, shining moment — there was Camelot.
Soon Nance departed and it was back to Buck and Azinger. Sounding like a couple of third graders babbling away when compared to Nance.
So yeah, Buck got what he wished for.
Nance came, he sat and he conquered.
Buck stinks, Azinger is somewhat tolerable.
End of story — into the Dog House with Joe Buck. There’s a microphone in there so he can do a play-by-play of the dogs licking themselves.

“You think Nance is going to lend broadcast-cred to FOX with his presence? No way.” – You truly believe that this wasn’t already set up in advance of Joe Buck “asking” Nance on-air to appear over the weekend?

There had to be some sort of back-and-forth to get him there, totally disliked most of the Fox coverage, they had to scrape the bottom of the talent barrell.
