Joe LaCava will once again be on the bag for Tiger Woods at this weekend’s PNC Championship in Orlando.
But who will be the looper for 11-year-old Charlie Woods?
Tiger came up with the perfect guy — Joe LaCava Jr. Yes, it will be a total family affair for Woods and Woods at the Ritz-Carlton with LaCava and LaCava on the bags.
The Woods father-son team will be one of 19 in the field but there’s no team that will draw the attention more than Tiger and son. So naturally, it was a brilliant idea by Tiger to have Joe bring his son for the action.
The event will be the last appearance for Tiger in 2020. He’ll make his first start of 2021 in mid-January at the Farmers Insurance event at Torrey Pines.
So Tiger fans will have two days to get their last dose of Eldrick this year.
The Woods-Woods team will play with the team that may be the actual favorite to win this two-day scramble tournament — Justin Thomas and father Mike, who is a PGA Professional and the man who taught the game to J.T., the world’s third-ranked player.
This event used to be for major champions only and family members but this year you’ll notice Matt (Kooch The Caddie Mooch) Kuchar in the field. The PNC has amended it’s requirements to allow players who have won The Players Championship — thus enters the Kuchar team — Matt and Cameron. Cameron was Matt caddie last week at the QBE Shootout, which was won by Matt and Harris English.
One very notable player absent this year is the man who has more majors than anyone — Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus played with grandson J.T. last year but there is no Nicklaus team in this weekend’s field.
The only female in the field is Annika Sorenstam, who will play with her father.
John Daly, who has been undergoing treatments for liver cancer, is well enough to play with his son, John Jr.
