All the hoopla, all the promotion, all the ballyhoo was so very premature.
Once again, in keeping with his career mantra, John Daly has not failed to disappoint.
Daly’s in his second season on the Champions Tour and so far, the guy who was supposed to re-launch his sinking career, hasn’t broken an egg.
He did manage to throw a putter into a lake last week in Boca Raton at the Allianz before he walked off the course, withdrawing from the tournament.
That putter was one of the valuable 50th anniversary Anser models. PING chairman John Solheim gave it to Daly. He should have known better than to give anything of value to Daly. No telling where it might end up. Daly later wanted the putter back but some enterprising soul retrieved it from the lake there at Broken Arrow. Coming soon to a Craig’s List ad near you.
Daly used the old Sciatic Nerve excuse for his WD but antics are nothing new to Daly.
This go-round on the old-guy circuit amounts to an amazing mulligan for Daly, who may or may not deserve one, depending on which side of the good behavior vs. bad behavior fence you stand on.
The over-50 circuit moves to Naples this week for the Chubb Classic at TwinEagles and Daly’s said he’ll be there.
So that’s a big hoop-tee-doo.
Daly was supposed to jump in there, use his length and then get the rest of his game to the point where he’d be a factor.
But going into this season, he’s simply becoming a senior sideshow.
Simple as that.
