It was one of those days you want to forget as quickly as possible if you were Jon Rahm or Matt Kuchar.
Those two name players headed the dishonor roll on a difficult Saturday at The Players Championship.
Kooch finished first and shot a horrific 81. It looked like he’d end up with the day’s worst score until Rahm got off and stumbling.
It started out poorly for Rahm and only got worse. Rahm had to birdie the par five ninth hole to make the turn in 42 and a back nine 40 gave him a 10-over par 82, his worst score as a PGA Tour member. His scorecard had three double-bogeys, six bogeys and two birdies.
There were others.
Phil Mickelson went the entire 18 holes without a birdie and shot 78.
Hideki Matsuyama shot 76.
Jason Dufner shot 77, Lee Westwood 76.
The winds started early and didn’t subside until late in the day.
It took a toll, even on some of the best.
