Drop your Green Jacket off at Augusta National and leave it there.
Check.
Ship the U.S. Open trophy back to the USGA.
Done.
See if you can rebound after last Sunday’s collapse at the Bryon Nelson.
Remains to be seen, but it is on the schedule this week for The Colonial.
What we have in Fort Worth this week is a fairly bland field and not much of a storyline but don’t fret those of you in Cowtown, Jordan Spieth is here to save your tournament.
There is a huge amount of curiosity swirling around the reigning U.S. Open champion. After Sunday, just two more events before things move to Oakmont for the second major of the year. In the meantime, Spieth will travel the 40-some miles from his home in Dallas to Colonial Country Club, a great old-school venue.
The last time we saw Spieth, he was starting the final round of the Byron Nelson just two shots off the lead of Brooks Koepka, who isn’t supposed to throw much of a scare into a player of Spieth’s stature.
Alas, there was Jordy, riding the bogey-train thanks to errant tee shots, lousy iron shots and a non-cooperative putter. Throw in those nasty ingredients and you’ve got a fourth-round collapse to the tune of 74 shots.
Ugh.
Wasn’t pretty. Spieth admitted it. He wasn’t happy. He shouldn’t be.
His performance perhaps rubbed off on Koepka. He hit his drive into the water on the first playoff hole, setting up Sergio Garcia for his long-awaited return to the PGA Tour winner’s circle.
So how will Spieth rebound this week?
Will he even rebound or will his game continue to puzzle everyone?
Stay tuned.
