They are wondering in South Africa if Brandon Stone is their version of Jordan Spieth.
Stone, a former teammate of Spieth’s at the University of Texas came through and won the South African Open Sunday at the Glendower Golf Club in Ekurhuleni.
He did it by surviving an up-and-down round where he made seven birdies, very Jordan Spieth-like, but stumbled with six bogeys, very un-Jordan Spieth-like.
In the end, he shot 71 and his 14-under par total was good enough for a two-shot victory.
Like Spieth, Stone is only 22 years old and right now is considered his country’s best young prospect and he backed up that belief with a victory.
It’s tough to compare any young player to Spieth but Stone’s rookie season on the European Tour is off to a great start.
