Justin Thomas has joined Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, and Rickie Fowler in the married-man ranks.
Thomas and fiancee Jillian Wesniewski said their vows last weekend in Franklin, Tenn., a short drive from downtown Nashville.
It was a cell-phone-free wedding — no pics, nothing like Pauline Gretsky giving us every detail of her wedding and basically making everyone feel like part of the wedding party.
J.T.’s best man was Jordan Spieth. You may or may not recall that years ago, J.T. and Spieth put together the old “spring break” gang of J.T., Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Smylie Kaufman. Both Fowler and Kaufman and their wives were on hand at the nuptials.
The wedding came a year after J.T. and Jillian announced their engagement. The Franklin connection comes as J.T. and Jillian have a place in Nashville. They are also new homeowners in Jupiter where they recently purchased a new-construction home on the Loxahatchee River. They paid $13.5 million for the 7,600-square foot, five bedroom, five bath abode with 100 feet of waterfront on the Loxahatchee.
Other guests at the wedding included the bride and groom’s parents, Thomas’ former coach, Matt Killen, country singer Morgan Wallen and Alexandra O’Laughlin (Golf Channel, NBC) and her husband.
Thomas will be in action next month in the latest edition of “The Match” when he teams with Spieth to take on Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy at the Pelican Golf Club.
Scottie Scheffler, Sam Burns Head Houston Open Field:
World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler finally got things in order last Sunday — a closing 62 earned him a tie for third at Mayakoba. Scottie heads the field this week at the Houston Open which begins Thursday at Memorial Park.
Another pre-tournament favorite is world No. 12 Sam Burns. No defending champion in the field as Jason Kokrak has defected to the LIV exhibition series.
Last week’s winner, Russell Henley, will tee it up as will Tony Finau, who missed the 36-hole cut at Mayakoba.
Bo Hoag Wins KFT Q-School:
Life outside the top 125 on the PGA Tour can be unsettling, Bo Hoag found that out last season.
Hoag shot 65 on Monday at The Landings in South Carolina and won the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School with a 14-under par total. He is now fully exempt for the 2023 KFT season.
“That kind of sticks with people when they’ve won Q-School,” Hoag said. “Whether it was PGA TOUR or Korn Ferry Tour, you can say you won a stressful event. It’s cool that you can say, ‘Not only got my card, but I won.’ It’s different. It’s a stressful thing.”
Players who finished second through 10th are exempt through the first 12 KFT events. The 11-40 finishers are exempt through the first eight events. Willie Mack III, who was a dominate player on the APGA Tour, is guaranteed eight starts.
Champions Tour Finale At Schwab Championship:
Steven Alker, the great Cinderella Story of the Champions Tour, is the favorite this week at Phoenix Country Club to win the Charles Schwab Cup.
Alker leads in the standings with a 600,000-point lead over Paddy Harrington coming into the Schwab Cup Championship but Harrington could still win.
Harrington would need a victory and Alker finishing outside the top five. A finish inside the top five clinches the title for Alker.
Play begins on Thursday.
