Bernhard Langer is the unstoppable force on the Champions Tour, or so it seems.
Langer tied Jack Nicklaus’ senior major mark last week when he won the Regions Tradition and now Langer is making his bid to pass Nicklaus.
The only tour with back-to-back majors is at it again this week with the PGA Senior getting underway at Trump National Potomac Falls, outside Washington, D.C.
Langer found the course to his lhursday and revved up with game with a seven-under par 65 that spotted him a two shot lead over a group that included three former major champions.
Tom Lehman, Lee Janzen and Larry Mize shot five-under par 67s. Scott McCarron and James Kingston joined them.
Langer now shares the senior major record with Nicklaus — eight.
Although he’s 59-years-old, Langer continues to dominate the over-50 circuit.
Mother Nature played a role in the first round. Rain delayed tee times a couple of hours then sent players off the course just after 5:30.
John Daly was among those who did not finish. He was two-under through 10 holes.
First round play resumed Friday morning at 7 a.m.
