Ho-hum.
Bernhard Langer is heating up at the Senior Players Championship and that’s trouble for the rest of the hopefuls.
Langer was on his way to another low round Friday when lightning ended play for the day. Langer, who shot 65 on Thursday, was six-under through 16 holes and 13-under total for 34 holes. He was two clear at that point from Corey Pavin. Pavin got his round in and shot 68 to post 11-under.
Brandt Jobe was the only other player in double-figures under par, he’s 10-under and like Langer, will have to finish his last two holes on Saturday morning.
First round leader Larry Mize, who opened with 64, shot 76 and fell back to four-under.
ZACH JOHNSON IN CONTENTION AT JOHN DEERE
Patrick Rodgers is a whopping 13-under par after 36-holes at the John Deere Classic but he has some name players chasing him — mainly two-time major champion Zach Johnson.
Rogers shot 64 on Friday to take a two-shot lead over Bryson DeChambeau, who is well on his way to breaking out of a recent scoring slump. DeChambeau has rounds of 66-65 and is 11-under.
Then Johnson’s in at 10-under, tied with first-round co-leader Charles Howell III. Johnson, who has won this event in 2012 then lost in a playoff to Jordan Spieth in 2013, has course knowledge on his side heading into the weekend.
Steve Stricker, who struggled with a 73 on Thursday, rallied with a 67 and made the cut on the number.
