Two wins, five seconds and one major stolen from her.
It’s been an amazing season for Lexi Thompson but there’s one thing missing — that major.
Thompson can take care of that missing piece of the puzzle this week in France at The Evian, the LPGA season’s final major.
Lexi flew to France on Sunday and was hard at work on Monday, she practiced and got in nine holes. On Tuesday she got in another nine and found the grounds at the Evian Resort Golf Club a bit soggy.
“It’s playing pretty soft so it is playing a lot longer than normal,” Thompson observed as rains have fallen early in the week at the French resort. “Hopefully we’ll get some good weather when play begins.”
Thompson has a firm hold on the No. 2 ranking in women’s golf and she’s pressing No. 1 So Yeon Ryu. Thompson, Ryu and No. 3 Sung Hyn Park are paired for the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday.
Thompson called her Indy win “a great week.”
All facets of her game were working well. Once again, this week will bring her putter into play in a big way. “The greens here have a lot of slope to them,” Thompson pointed out.
A win for Thompson could end Ryu’s time at No. 1. She hasn’t been there long, only 12 weeks.
For Thompson, it could mean a super year and Player Of The Year honors.
There’s a lot on the line in France.
