It wasn’t like Jordan Spieth and Henrik Stenson were all that serious about the final round Sunday at the Hero World Challenge.
Stenson was one-over par through 54 holes at Albany, where he owns a home and Spieth was two-over. They were next-to-last and last in the field and were first off for the final 18.
Most likely it was one of those, let’s cruise around and collect our checks kinda afternoon for Stennie and Jordy.
Things were okay through their first eight holes. Stenson was two-under, Spieth, even par.
Then came the Bahamian Brain Fart. When they arrived at the par five ninth, they made the mistake of going to the back tee, which was being used for the 17th (par three) hole. They hit their tee shots and as they were about 100 yards out, a PGA Tour official informed them of the blunder. They had to return to the proper tees, hit again and take a two-shot penalty.
It cost each of them two shots. Spieth made bogey and that turned into a triple-bogey eight while Stenson’s par turned into a double with the penalty shots. The Tour had posted that the tees might move up at some point and it happened on day four, to make the par five ninth reachable for all.
Afterward, it sounded like a comedy act as the two recounted what happened to them.
Spieth was bumbling on that wrong tee from the start. He was going to hit first and caddie Michael Greller reminded him that Stenson had the honor. When Spieth stepped up a second time, he was in front of the marker and had to move his ball back.
Stenson finished with an even par 72 and one-over for the week. He pocketed $101,000, a grand more than Jordy.
It was an ugly back nine for Spieth — a double at the par four 10th and a triple-bogey at the par three 12th. He signed for 76 and took home last place money of a measly $100,000.
Not bad for four days of sub-standard work.

Very funny.
I do like that tee for the par 3. It would be cool if both holes tees off from that same spot on the same day. It would help with confusion.

Twosomes, perhaps, if it were threesomes, too many people on the same tee…

There’s 20 people in the field and this has precedent.
At pebble for the US Open they basically used the same tee box for 4 tee and 17 tee.
Different markers but they were right next to each other… awesome viewing spot.
