When was the last time you birdied every hole on the back nine?
For most of the golfing population in the world, the answer is never.
When was the last time you even heard of someone doing that?
That may be a hard answer as well because it is a very, very rare feat in golf.
Amy Yang did it on Sunday in South Korea at the Hana Bank Championship. She birdied every hole on the back nine, shot a 10-under par and eventually finished fourth in the event.
“Crazy good,” is how she described what transpired. It was only the second time that has happened on the womens’ tour. Beth Daniel did it back in 1999 at the Phillips Invitational in Austin, Texas. Yang’s 27 tied Daniel for the lowest nine-hole score in LPGA history.
“I don’t know what just happened,” Yang said after her round. All we need to know is that can only happen when someone is really in “the zone.”
Lexi Thompson was the winner of the tournament. She shot 69 and was 15-under par, two shots better than Yang.
