Last week, Jin Young Ko didn’t even play in the Gainbridge, yet she managed to pass Nelly Korda in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings.
Nelly will have a chance to get back to that No. 1 spot this week and the weather news is good for her — the temperatures in Ft. Myers, site of this week’s Drive-On LPGA Tour event, are expected to get into the low 80s.
As seen and proven the past two weeks of the Florida Swing, Nelly Korda’s Achilles Heel is cold weather. She simply couldn’t adapt to the chilly air and her tie for 20th in Boca Raton dropped her to No. 2 in the world. But the margin between Ko and Korda is slimmer than slim. Ko has 9.51 points, Korda 9.46. Ko won’t be in the field this week either. She back in South Korea awaiting the Asian events in March.
In the meantime, a few of the usual suspects will be at the Crown Colony Country Club and a few will not.
Last week’s winner — Lydia Ko, took the money and went home. Same for Danielle Kang, who went win, runner-up in the first two events of the season.
Nelly is the top-ranked player this week. World No. 4 Inbee Park is playing as is No. 7 Yuka Saso.
Lexi Thompson’s in, so is Brooke Henderson, so is Anna Nordqvist.
