When Sunday arrives at the Tiburon Golf Club down in Naples (Florida), one LPGA Tour player will walk off the 72nd green at the CME Group Tour Championship with $1.1 million.
The CME Group has stepped up to bring some equality to prize money in the women’s game and this season-ending show for the LPGA Tour offers the richest first place money in women’s golf.
A. Lim Kim, a non-LPGA Tour member captured the U.S. Open on Monday in Houston and the $1 million first place money that went with it. This week’s purse is larger by 100-large.
Last year it was Sei Young Kim holing a 25-foot birdie putt on the final green to shoot 18-under par for the event, edging Charley Hull by a shot and Nelly Korda by two.
Sie Young will be back, looking to repeat. Same for Hull and Korda.
There’s also more hardware handed out as well. The LPGA Tour will honor the Annika Major Award to the player who scored the best in all four majors. The Vare Trophy (low stroke average) will be handed out as will the Rolex Player Of The Year award. World’s No. 1 Jin Young Ko swept all of those last year.
This is a no-cut, small field event. Usually there are 60 players. This year there will be 70. It has been expanded due to the unusual pandemic-affected season.
Once again the Tiburon Golf Club is the site and if this year is anything like last season’s finale, it should be a good one.

Always a great event especially since they went to winner take all.
That move put Whan back on top as best commissioner in golf (imo); after losing it for a while with the Watered down major, the mans only black eye.

Just this year, I believe.
But yea That is a big flaw.
Also, if you win a major, you should be in. It’s even more frustrating 2 major champs can’t get a ticket.
