Lydia Ko hasn’t played well since winning the Silver Medal at the summer Olympics in Rio.
She’s been in a slump, if you want to call it that and has made a lot of changes, including the decision to get rid of her caddie who had been on the bag for most of her 14 wins, including her two majors.
It looked like Ko might bust that slump last week in Naples after 36 holes when she went 70-62 and was 12-under par. But she fell apart over the weekend, shooting one-over for the final 36 and falling back into a tie for 10th.
Along the way, Ariya Jutanugarn ended up as the LPGA Tour’s Player Of The Year, taking that title from Ko.
Now it appears that Ko will make another big chance.
Reports are that she will be dumping her equipment company — Callaway and start using clubs from the upstart company started by Go Daddy billionaire Bob Parsons.
It’s a big deal for Parsons Extreme Golf as none of the other female players on their staff won a tournament this year.
Cristie Kerr is their biggest women’s name and she went winless this season. They also after newcomer Alison Lee, three-time winner Beatriz Recari and America’s favorite runnerup — Gerina Piller.
With Ko, Parsons will have the world’s No. 1 player and the winner of four events in 2016.
In the end, it will be all about the money and it was probably pretty easy for Bob Parsons to write a bigger check than Callaway.
