The LPGA, the same folks that brought you the four-shot penalty on Lexi Thompson, have messed up again.
The calculation geeks at LPGA headquarters thought they’d get the jump on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and announced Sunday that Ariya Jutanugarn had unseated Ko as the world’s No. 1-ranked player.
Wrong.
Ko made it 85 weeks in a row despite what the LPGA said earlier.
“Last week we issued some projections which showed Ariya Jutanugarn taking over the No. 1 spot in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings base on player finishes at the LPGA’s 2017 Shoprite Classic. However, when official rankings were run this morning we discovered a bug in the projection tool.”
Oops.
So much for that. Ko’s still No. 1 even if it is by one, one-hundredth of a point.
Sorry Ariya.
Shame on you, LPGA, we fell for it as well!
