Fred Ridley was the 1975 U.S. Amateur champion. He never turned pro but things have worked out pretty well for the former University of Florida golfer.
Ridley, who today the Tampa attorney wields major power as the Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club, will try and qualify for the 67th U.S. Senior Amateur.
The 36-hole qualifier starts Saturday at the host club — The Kittansett Club in Marion, Mass.
This will be Ridley’s third attempt to make the match play portion.
LPGA Tour Has Canadian Excited For Return Of Canadian Open:
The golf fans have waited nearly three years for the return of the women’s Canadian Open and the wait ends on Thursday as the LPGA Tour returns to Canada for the first time since 2019.
World No. 1 Jin Young Ko won that year and held off defending champion Brooke Henderson for the victory. Both Ko and Henderson are in this week’s field and the entire nation will be pulling for Henderson, who is now the winningest professional in the country’s golf history.
Henderson’s homecoming as a now, two-time major winner created a waiting list for tournament volunteers and hospitality venues at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club are sold out.
“I’m super excited. It’s really close to home this year so there will be lots of people, hopefully,” said Henderson, who grew up less than an hour drive from the Club in nearby Smiths Falls. “It’s so much fun to have that much support and love from Canadian fans and to be able to play in front of them on home soil and just have the whole tour come and show them how we play every single week is pretty cool. I love the week, and I’m just really excited for it.”
Nelly Korda, winner of last week’s event on the Ladies European Tour, is in the field. The week also marks the return of Danielle Kang, who is making her first start since the U.S. Women’s Open. She took time off to address a tumor on her spine.
DP World Tour Heads To Switzerland:
This week’s stop on the DP World Tour features breathtaking scenery at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, host of the Omega European Masters.
Formerly the Swiss Open, it’s been a long-standing event for the European circuit. It has a long list of distinguished champions — Seve Ballesteros won three times, newly-crowned U.S. Open champ Matt Fitzpatrick won twice. Masters champions Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam and Jose Maria Olazabal have their names on the trophy.
Defending champion is Rasmus Hojgaard, who shot a final round 63 to win the title last year.
