If you’re going to the 2017 Masters, you might want to pack your rain gear.
Weather, make that bad weather, could be an issue next week at Augusta National Golf Club.
Overall, the forecast doesn’t look great.
The first problem will come on Monday. That’s normally a huge practice round day. Most players will play all 18 holes on a Monday, then nine on Tuesday and maybe nine on Wednesday morning.
The Monday forecast calls for an 80% chance of thunder storms — never a good thing. When thunder storms roll in at Augusta National, they clear the golf course.
Rain could wipe out a LOT of practice time on Monday.
Tuesday looks better, only 20% chance of the wet stuff, should be a go.
They close the course at noon on Wednesday, you have to have your prep work done by then because all the attention turns to the par three contest and they start the final prep on the big course for Thursday’s first round.
Things don’t look too promising on Thursday. There’s a 60% chance of thunderstorms. Thank goodness for daylight savings time.
Friday and Saturday should be fine but then comes the problem.
The Masters starts on the back nine on Sunday afternoon and that’s when they’re calling for more thunderstorms.
Hopefully this is one time when the weather folks are wrong.
For the patrons, a wet Augusta National makes the footing treacherous, walking the course isn’t easy.
It looks like it could be a tough week for the season’s first major.
