Jordan Spieth is the defending Masters champion.
Jason Day is the hottest player coming into Augusta National.
Both will have to overcome a lot of Masters history to don the Green Jacket on Sunday afternoon.
Spieth first. Only three players have won back-to-back Masters titles — Jack Nicklaus (65, 66), Nick Faldo (89-90) and Tiger Woods (2001, 2002). Those are three big names in Augusta lore. Nicklaus has won a record six titles, Woods four and Faldo three. Spieth is not in their class — yet.
Jason Day next.
Only TWO players have won two straight events coming in and then won the Masters — Jack Nicklaus in 1975 and Tiger Woods in 2001. That is very rarified Masters air. Day is not in the Nicklaus-Woods stratosphere.
Both players along with the rest of the field wrapped up their heavy preparation on Tuesday. The course is open Wednesday morning then closes early with the spotlight on the Par Three contest.
Will either Spieth or Day win?
History and form say probably not.
