Attention Masters competitors!
Things are going to get real tough when the action goes live on Thursday.
Starting Thursday, strong winds will show up, ranging from 24 to maybe as high as 40 miles per hour. Temperatures in the early morning will be in the 48-degree range and will only warm up to around 60 degrees.
Same for Friday, more high winds, more chilly air.
So what you’ve got is a British Open breaking out over the first two days at Augusta National.
It could become a survival test to see who can make it to the weekend when the winds will calm down and the temperatures will get up into the 70s.
But those first 36 holes will be difficult, very difficult at best. Winds at Augusta National are even more treacherous and difficult to predict, especially on the back nine that sits down in a giant bowl of terrain.
Tee times were released on Tuesday. Tournament favorite Dustin Johnson goes off last on Thursday at 2:03 p.m. and will play alongside two-time champion Bubba Watson and PGA champ Jimmy Walker.
Rory McIlroy goes at 1:41 with Jon Rahm and Hideto Tanihara.
Jordan Spieth will get out earlier. He’ll go at 10:34 a.m. with Martin Kaymer and Matthew Fitzpatrick.
