Michelle Wie’s return to form continues out in Arizona as she’s just three back after 36-holes at the LPGA’s Founders Cup event.
Wie’s in with rounds of 69-68, six-under par and three back of leader Cydney Clanton.
If you haven’t heard of Clanton you’re not alone. She got her LPGA card in 2012 but has had only four top 10 finishes on tour. This is the American’s first lead of any kind in an event.
Clanton holed out for eagle on the 13th hole and then made birdie on 18 to close in sole possession of the 36-hole lead at 9-under, 135. Clanton followed her 68 on Thursday with a 5-under, 67 on Friday.
Another American player — Marina Alex — is in at eight-under and will play with Clanton on Saturday. Ariya Jutanugarn was alone in third at eight-under. Jessica Korda and Mo Martin were just two shots back at seven-under par.
