It was probably part of “the script” this week down in Miami.
Yes, the LIV-circus/exhibition medicine show holds press conferences although there’s not much working press there to take in the festivities.
Seems The Defector-In-Chief (aka Phil Mickelson) is always good for a laugh or some sort of ridiculous claim and Lefty got into it with bum-knee Brooks (aka Bruce Koepka).
Seems they must have been blathering about one team versus another and Brooks engaged Mickelson with this:
“If you want to play, we can play — but I don’t know if you know this because you have never been number one in the world, at the end of the year they give you a little trophy. I have two of those. I can bring one and show you if you would like,” Koepka said to Lefty.
Well, evidently no one ever told Koepka that it’s not a good idea to stick the old needle in Mickelson.
Mickelson had a quick response:
“That’s a beautiful green shirt, do you have a green jacket? I was just wondering,” Mickelson responded.
All they needed after that was to have WWE champ Roman Raines come out and body slam both of them.
Jordan Smith Leads Day One At Portugal Masters:
The DP World Tour only one event left after this week’s Portugal Masters luntil the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai and on Thursday in Portugal, England’s Jordan Smith took advantage of a very hot putter.
Smith shot a nine-under par 62 at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Club to take the day one lead. He had an eagle and seven birdies on his card.
But his 62 only gave him a one-shot lead over Jeff Winther and Joost Luiten.
Winther went out early Friday and cooled off from his first round effort. All he could manage was a one-under par 70 that had him at nine-under through 36 holes.
Smith was an early starter on Friday and added a 67 to that 62 and was an early 36-hole leader at 13-under par along with Gavin Green (64-65).

It started with Phil challenging brooks to a Kiwah rematch. The whole thing was a laugh riot.
The way everyone is calling brooks Bruce is hilarious.
The way Phil was sucking up to Cam knowing they were going to play each other was hilarious.
And even more hilarious today is Cams dad saying Phil is slow playing his son so bad they are going to finish in the dark. The coverage team keeps wondering if the cameras are frozen.
I don’t think anything was scripted but these boys know it’s trash talk Week. They are all doing it with a smile, even brooks trying his best not to.
…but I better stop now.

Yes, when you pay guys huge money up front, they all suddenly become comedians…
baxter cepeda
Tom athletes getting money up front based on their previous success is absolutely normal. If you had a son or Grandson in this position wouldn’t you want that for them. To get a huge contract and then have a chance to compete for even more?
I can’t see any scenario where I wouldn’t want that for mine. Absolutely none.

Golf has always been the best because it is a MERITOCRACY — you cannot compare apples to coconuts — which is what you are doing — other sports — baseball, football and basketball, hockey have Players Unions…..those sports are owned by individual owners….the PGA Tour is player-owned — that’s why there’s no union….so your argument is flawed.
baxter cepeda
Player owned? Lol.
It’s still is going to be a meritocracy. But It will be diffferent now. It will have teams. Team owners.
I keep thinking it would be too bad if they do compromise, that could be the end of big signings for golf. But with that teams slowly growing, there really may still be contracts for teams moving forward.
I know you don’t see that happening. But you have not seen anything that has happened so far.
Tom Edrington
If it wasn’t player-owned, there would be a players union — I guess that’s too difficult for you to grasp, Baxter.

I saw GCs Investigative reporter Rex was there amongst others.

Interesting since GC is totally ignoring LIV.
baxter cepeda
It is interesting.

Golfers desperately need a players union. IMHO.

You’re such a socialist.
baxter cepeda
I’m actually not a socialist, especially when a bunch of crack head union mafia people won’t let small businesses dolly their belongings out of a convention hall so they can price gouge them.
But all pro sports basically have unions and the pga tour and other top golf tours have clearly been underpaying golfers compared to other sports. While also fracturing the players throughout history but especially of late…so just saying in the world we live in, if I was a pro, I’m not buying the notion players own the tours…instead I’m increasingly believing players really need to come together and let these bald heads of golf Know they are done making messes and that they the players will dictate how it’s going to go or the tours, including LIv, can go find themselves replacement players.

Can you tell me the NFL minimum salary? LOTS of NFL guys make minimum salary — most are one contract players — have a neighbor who lasted about three or four seasons, he was a veteran player and most he made was $750,000.
baxter cepeda
The minimum nfl rookies make is north of 700.000$. And are slated to be at a million plus by 2030.
Pga tour players are now at half a million. As you know it was zero.
Tom Edrington
In the NFL there’s s difference between rookie minimum and veteran minimum. Also, the average NFL career lasts 3.3 years.
