Sadly, Mike Tirico was allowed on the grounds at Augusta National Golf Club for Sunday’s Drive-Chip-Putt national finals.
It was during the broadcast that Tirico uttered the ultimate sports blasphemy:
“There is value to participation awards.”
Seriously?
Trophy and awards just to participate in something?
First, it’s an insult to competitors everywhere.
How come they only give Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the Olympics? Per Tirico, everyone should get a “participation” medal.
Through the ages, it’s been pretty much proven that winners win because they out-work everyone else, including under-performing “participants.”
So value in participation awards and trophies?
Of course, Tirico works for NBC — the far left leaning network.
Trophies for everyone — we don’t want to hurt the feelings of the non-winners.
The dogs are all laughing. In fact, they’ve voted unanimously to award Mike Tirico “The Dog House Participation Trophy.”
Display it proudly, Mike.

I generally agree with you Tom.
But the DCP is different.
First the 10 kids in each group have truly done something amazing to get there. Dcp isn’t just for rich kids —or parents who spend everything on their kids golf.
It’s free and open to everyone.
I’m not sure where the participation numbers stand but 10th at Augusta is still a regional champion whom got to this event out of a pool of thousands.
Also even in round one, everyone gets some sweet swag from dcp.
Only the top 3 in each phase get awards.
By the time families get to Augusta, the Royal treatment is on. At Augusta only the top 3 get awards but those swag items —even the stuff the families buy at the Masters store— are truly trophies of an amazing accomplishment. These kids truly earn taking their entire family to golf heaven.
From experience those kids deserve everything they get.
