The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers is in search for a new member.
And it will be one of the female persuasion.
Things got a little testy in East Lothian a while back when the stodgy lads at Muirfield wouldn’t consider admitting a female to the all-male club.
Muirfield, one of the most famous courses in the Open Championship rota, is one of the favorites of Jack Nicklaus, so much so that he named his hometown development in Ohio, Muirfield Village.
When the Honourable Company was first asked to admit women, the vote failed. The R&A promptly threatened to remove Muirfield from the Open Championship rota. It was suggested that there would be another vote.
That vote came this week and the decision has been made to admit women members.
Muirfield is back in the Open rota.
Now who and how many women will join the Honourable Company remains to be seen.
