You’ll excuse Danielle Kang and Chella Choi if they’re a bit nervous going into Sunday’s final round at the Women’s PGA Championship.
They’re both tied at 10-under par at Olympia Fields after 54 holes and for both, the winner’s circle is relatively unknown territory.
Choi, age 26, has a single win on the LPGA Tour and that came in 2015 at the Marathon Classic.
Kang has no wins. She had huge expectations when she turned pro in 2011 after winning the 2010 U.S. Amateur but has failed to live up to those expectations.
But there both of them are, atop a leaderboard with a lot of big names stars chasing them.
Choi shot 67, Kang 68 to get to 10-under and they’re two shots in front of Jiyai Shin, who sizzled Saturday with a seven-under par 64 — low round of the tournament.
Defending champion Brooke Henderson is in at seven-under par. World’s No. 1 So Yeon Ryu is one of 10 players in at five-under par and if the leaders slip at all, it could be a final round scramble for the title. Americans Michelle Wie and Lexi Thompson are in that huge crowd at five-under.
