If you had your druthers, one might not want to travel to South Korea these days, maybe because of the noisy little fat guy running things up north.
Still, some of the world’s most famous players are just off the coast of the South Korean mainland this week.
Seems CJ has a Cup of sorts and has put up $9,250,000 so a bunch of these golfers can show up and pad their pockets.
Like last week’s CIMB Classic, this has a 78-man field, no cut. Winner takes home $1.6 million and these days, one can always use an extra $1.6 million.
That has Jason Day, Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed, Paul Casey and red-hot rookie Xander Schauffele showing up at the Nine Brides Club on this old volcanic island that sits at 3,500-feet above sea level. Can anyone say long ball?
Last week’s winner Pat Perez didn’t go home. He’s riding the gravy train. Get it while you can.
Rafa Cabrera Bello from Spain showed up. So did Tony Finau, who might hit the ball 400 yards at this altitude.
Same for Keegan Bradley, who had his best outing in years last week at the CIMB with a runner-up finish.
Then there’s everyone’s favorite one-time winner — Kevin Na. His card reads: “Have Clubs, Will Travel…..wire Na, Las Vegas.”
That’s about it.
They’re racing to Dubai on the European Tour, Tiger Woods is cleared to play golf again and CJ has a $9 million Cup.
All is well.
