Don’t look now but Alex Noren is putting on a sprinter’s kick in the Race To Dubai.
The Swedish star outdueled Bernd Wiesberger down the stretch Sunday to win for the third time this season on the European Tour. His final round 69 gave him the British Masters title at The Grove in Chandlers Cross.
Wiesberger holed a birdie putt at the 15th to tie Noren but Noren answered with a birdie of his own. He made solid pars at the difficult 16th and 17th holes then birdies 18 to get to 18-under par, good for a two-shot margin over the German star.
“At the last three and a half holes I managed to play the best I played all week,” said Noren, “so I’m really happy and proud about that.”
Noren is now fourth in the Race To Dubai standings behind Danny Willett, Henrik Stenson and Rory McIlroy.
Lee Westwood found his game after a poor showing in the Ryder Cup. He shot 15-under par and finished solo third.
