Alex Noren put up the second-best round of the day Friday and his 67 vaulted him into the halfway lead at the Nedbank Challenge.
Noren recorded six birdies on the day and his effort got him to eight-under par, two shots better than his closest competitors.
While Noren jumped to the top, fellow Swede Henrik Stenson took a tumble with a two-over par 74 that left him at one-under par, seven back of Noren. It also threw more uncertainty into the Race To Dubai. While Stenson faded, Danny Willett, who is second to Stenson in the overall points race, continued his scoring slump shooting 75-74 over the first two rounds and is in at five-over par.
He wasn’t the only name player who struggled so far this week at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City Center. German star and Ryder Cupper Martin Kaymer found himself at 12-over par after rounds of 81-75. He gets to stick around as there is no 36-hole cut.
While they had problems, Fabrizio Zanotti did not. He used an ace at the fourth hole to put up a 66, the day’s best round. He was in at six-under along with Louis Oosthuizen, Chris Wood and George Coetzee.
