Geoff Ogilvy was the hottest man at the Royal Sydney Golf Club on Saturday but Jordan Spieth is breathing down his neck at the Australian Open.
Ogilvy grabbed the 54-hole lead with a dazzling eight-under par 64 to post 11-under.
But Spieth is creeping up the leaderboard. His 68 put him in easy striking distance and he has company at nine-under with Aussie’s Aaron Baddeley and Ryan Fox joining him.
Spieth has won two of the last three Australian Open titles and is looking for a third come Sunday.
Spieth fought his putter early in the tournament but it is started to warm up, if only slightly. “I like the position we’re in,” Spieth said after his round on moving day. “Maybe we can make a few mid-range putts tomorrow. I’ve only made one this week. I’d like to roll some in and see if we can put some pressure on.”
Second round leader James Nitties fell back to seven-under after shooting 74. Adam Scott cooled off as well. His 71 left him in a tie for sixth with Nitties at seven-under.
