Brooks Koepka was one of the big name stars in this week’s Canadian Open.
He didn’t play like one in Thursday’s first round at Glen Abbey.
Koepka shot a five-over par 77 on a day when birdies were on just about everyone’s menu.
Koepka stumble left him tied for 149th and in danger of missing the weekend.
Robert Garrigus found the most birdies and his nine-under par 63 handed him the first-round lead on a day plagued by rain.
Afternoon rains halted play with at least a third of the field still on the course.
The field’s biggest name — world No. 1 Dustin Johnson, did finish his round and turned in a four-under par 68.
Defending champion Jhonny Vegas has a chance to add his name to a very short list of players winning a PGA Tour event three years straight. Vegas was two under but had to come back early to finish the final two holes of his round.
