Four good days on the PGA Tour can change the course of a season for a struggling player.
The AT&T Pro-Am proved to be a game-changer for Kelly Kraft, especially his closing 67 Sunday at Pebble Beach.
Kraft’s final round earned him a solo second finish to winner Jordan Spieth, his best-ever effort on the PGA Tour and it most likely changed the course of his 2017 season.
Coming into last week, Kraft had a missed cut, a tie for 27th at the Sony and a tie for 28th in the books. Stuff like that will put your tour card in jeopardy but on Sunday, that all changed.
Kraft banked $777,600, a game-changing check that put him over $900,000 for the year and locked up his card for 2018.
“This is great, this is an awesome place,” he said of Pebble Beach. “Everything clicked here this week.”
Kraft put up rounds of 69-70-66 and his Sunday 67 tied him with Jason Day for the day’s low round. He outplayed Dustin Johnson, and that itself is a hard day’s work.
The good news for Kraft is that he’ll move up from the 391st spot in the world rankings. He jump up the FedEx Cup points list and now with that finish, he’s automatically in this week’s field at the Genesis.
