Pernilla Lindberg hasn’t won a tournament in her nine years as a professional.
That could change on Sunday at the ANA Inspiration.
With playing partner Sung Hyun Park falling apart on the back nine Saturday at Mission Hills, Lindberg calmly rolled in a four-foot birdie putt at the 18th to set a 54-hole scoring record at the season’s first major.
Lindberg’s closing birdie was good enough for a two-under par round of 70 that got her to 14-under, a shot better than the previous record.
She will take a three-shot lead over Amy Olson into Sunday’s finale.
Her biggest threats are all at 10-under.
In that group is Inbee Park, whose 67 put her in the hunt along with Moriya Jutanugarn (66), Charley Hull (69) and Jennifer Song (68). Park, the only player among the leaders to shoot over par, finished with 74 to make it five players at 10-under.
Park appeared to come unnerved when she and Lindberg were put on the clock over the final five holes of the back nine. Her day came undone with three bogeys and a double over those final nine holes.
