The PGA Of America has made a move that had been predicted following last week’s events in Washington D.C., and late Sunday night decided that Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., will not be the site for the 2022 PGA Championship.
“The PGA of America Board of Directors voted tonight (Sunday) to exercise the right to terminate the agreement to play the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster,” said PGA Of American President Jim Richerson viva Twitter.
The announcement came late, just past 10 p.m.
PGA Of America CEO Seth Waugh went into a more detailed explanation:
“We find ourselves in a political situation not of our making. We’re fiduciaries for our members, for the game, for our mission and for our brand. And how do we best protect that? Our feeling was given the tragic events of Wednesday that we could no longer hold it at Bedminster. The damage could have been irreparable. The only real course of action was to leave. This is not because of any pressures we feel. We’re not being forced into a decision. We had to make a business decision. It’s a perpetual institution. My job is to hand it off better than when I found it. One hundred years from now, we still want to be vibrant.”
A spokesperson for the Trump organization released the following statement on Sunday night:
“We have had a beautiful partnership with the PGA of America and are incredibly disappointed with their decision. This is a breach of a binding contract and they have no right to terminate the agreement. As an organization we have invested many, many millions of dollars in the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster. We will continue to promote the game of golf on every level and remain focused on operating the finest golf courses anywhere in the world.”
So with New Jersey scratched, where will the PGA Of America relocate the season’s second major?
Some names being thrown out are Southern Hills Golf Club in Tulsa and Liberty National, which sits in New Jersey, across from Manhattan and is about 40 miles from Trump Bedminster.

This is an obvious move by the PgA.
I’ve defended Trump against politics trying to black ball Trump golf courses for big events…until now.
I’m no lawyer but Imo it’s a justified breach of contract.

One thing I know is courts are backed up everywhere and civil litigation is waaaaaaay on the back burners……maybe there will be some sort of “settlement” in this case.
