While the stars get a “halftime break” from their mega-money playoffs, the hopefuls and has-beens at the Web.com finals get no such break.
It is just a matter of play-on for these weary guys. Tour cards are on the line, this has nothing to do with the Web.com Tour, this is simply a new-fangled version of the old PGA Tour Qualifying School.
Here’s what you have so far. A total of 50 cards for the 2017-2018 season will be given out. Twenty-five of those have already been presented to the top 25 from the Web.com’s regular season money list. That makes 25 left. The top 25 money winners from this four-event stretch will earn Tour cards. If there’s a tie for the 25th spot, all the guys who tie get cards, meaning there can be more than 25 cards handed out.
Peter Uihlein won last week at the Scarlet Course on the Ohio State University campus and he’s in. Doesn’t have to tee it up in the other three if he doesn’t want to. He got into this stretch by earning enough FedEx Cup points in a couple of regular tour events this season. The rest of the field are the guys who finished 126-200 on the regular tour money list along with the top 75 from the regular Web.com season.
This week is the Boise Open then the DAP outside Cleveland with the last event the Web.Com Tour Championship at Atlantic Beach.
So yes, play on lads.
No rest for the weary.
