October through December used to be called the “silly season” because the PGA Tour season was over and you had all kinds of crazy events that paid players gobs to money to participate in stuff like skills competitions, two-man team scrambles and what have you.
Leave it to the PGA Tour to see that there was even more money to be had in the fall and winter. Greed is good.
The PGA Tour has announced that there will be an official event October 16-22, 2017, at the Nine Bridges Resort in South Korea.
The field will be filled with the top 60 guys from the FedEx Cup standings and 18 “others” that will most likely be composed of South Korean players and maybe some Asian Tour stars.
This won’t be chump change either that they’ll play for. The purse will be $9.25 million. That’s a lot of Benjamins for a fall event.
A lot.
C.J. Group, a South Korean conglomerate of companies, is the sponsor and naturally, the tournament will be called the C.J. Cup.
We’re guessing Will McGirt won’t be there.
