It came between family and the U.S. Open and Phil Mickelson chose family.
Mickelson, who has finished runner-up in the U.S. Open six times, will not be in the field in two weeks at Erin Hills.
Instead, he will be at his daughter Amanda’s high school graduation. She will be among the school’s senior graduates at Pacific Ridge High in Carlsbad, Ca.
“There’s no greater joy as a parent,” said Mickelson.
Amanda, the oldest of the three Mickelson children, was born the day after Phil lost the U.S. Open in Pinehurst to Payne Stewart in 1999.
Her graduation ceremony is on June 15th, same day as the start of play at Erin Hills.
