You appreciate the globe-trotting nature of golf when you see guys traveling to the other side of the world while the rest of us spend Thanksgiving at home, hopefully.
Ryder Cup teammate Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker flew to Australia earlier this week to represent the United States in the World Cup competition.
They’ll play against the rest of the world at Kingston Heath Golf Club outside Melbourne.
Adam Scott and Marc Leishman are the home-country favorites for the Aussie fans but no one’s going to hand this one to them.
Here are some other teams to keep an eye on:
Alex Noren-David Lingmerth: Noren’s the hottest guy on the planet and Lingmerth is one of the truly under-rated guys on the PGA Tour. This Swedish team should be really tough to beat.
Rafa Cabrera Bello-Jon Rahm: Here’s a really, really good pairing for Spain. Bello has become a star on the rise, he was outstanding in Ryder Cup play while Rahm is the hottest new guy on the PGA Tour, played his way onto the tour, made a pile of money in just seven events.
Hideki Matsuyama-Ryo Ishikawa: Matsuyama won the fall WGC event, easily. He’s a top 10 talent on any given day and his next step in his career progression is to win a major. He should provide plenty of fire-power to support Ishikawa, who is starting to come into his own.
Add those three teams to the U.S. and Aussies and you have perhaps the five strongest.
The good news is that the guys are playing on the other side of the world. No interference with your football-watching schedule. You can check out the action starting tonight on the Golf Channel.
