Welcome to Rocco’s Modern World.
Through 36 holes at the PGA Senior Championship, that’s what it’s been for Rocco Mediate, who is 14-under par after two trips around Harbor Shores, a Jack Nicklaus design that Mediate has found to his liking.
“I haven’t been here in a long time,” Mediate said, referring to his spot atop the leader board. “I love it. This place, it’s just evil in a good way.” Through two rounds, Mediate has negotiated 36 holes without a bogey. “I made some ridiculously good putts to save par,” he admitted after he followed up his opening 62 with 66.
Mediate is four in front of Gene Sauers, who shot 69.
Last week’s champion at the Tradition, Bernhard Langer, made his presence felt. He shot 64 to get to nine-under and will be hunting Mediate over the weekend.
So will defending champion Colin Montgomerie, who joined Langer at nine-under par along with club pro John DalCorobbo.
The 36-hole cut came at even par and John Daly was among those heading home after he shot 75-74.
