With most of the eyes on Jamie Donaldson, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer, 23-year-old Clement Sordet made his way around the Amata Spring Golf Club with a stylish 63 on Saturday.
He’s only been a pro for six months but the young Frenchman vaulted past the big names to take the 54-hole lead at the Thailand Golf Championship at 16-under par.
He will take a two shot lead over Jamie Donaldson of Wales into Sunday’s final round and he’s basically living his dream at the moment. “Hopefully I can sleep well tonight,” he said after his career round as a pro. “It’s pretty much my dream to play with the top players in the field.”
He’ll get that wish as they are lined up behind him.
Donaldson’s 71 left him at 14-under. Lee Westwood, looking for his third win at this championship, moved into solid contention with a 64 that put him at 13-under par and within striking distance of Sordet.
Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer will start the final round five back at 11-under.
Bubba Watson couldn’t gain any ground. In fact, his even par 72 dropped him to a tie for 34th.
