There was nothing but good news coming out of Congressional Sunday after the Quicken Loans National for rookies Harold Varner III and John Rahm.
Rahm, playing on a sponsor’s invite from Tiger Woods, got himself in the thick of it all week and finished tied for third. That earned him $400,200, not a bad first paycheck on the PGA Tour. It also earned him a berth in the British Open.
“I had a lot of fun out there today,” he said after he finished. “I’m extremely honored to play this week and I’m excited that I got into the Open Championship.”
It was Rahm’s first event as a pro after he finished as low amateur in the U.S. Open two weeks ago.
Varner bagged himself another top 10, a solo seventh that earned him a spot in the British as well.
Varner’s finish was good for a $231,150 payday and put him over the $1 million mark for the season ($1,014,450).
Both Rahm and Varner shot one-under pars on Sunday.
