Rory McIlroy had a lot of time off before he resurfaced a couple of weeks ago at the Frys.com.
Rory’s ball-striking was fine but his putting? Well, it left a lot to be desired and he even admitted it was a matter of “confidence” at the Silverado Country Club. The world’s No. 3 player missed enough short putts for him and two others and he wound up an undistinguished 26th in the field after four days.
McIlroy returns to action Thursday at the Turkish Airlines Open, hoping to find his touch with the flat stick.
He has a comfortable pairing the first two rounds, played with good buddy Shane Lowry and England’s Danny Willett.
The next few weeks on the European Tour are important to McIlroy as he tries to win the Race To Dubai, the Euro equivalent of the FedEx Cup.
“I’ve got three opportunities coming up to try and get a win or two on the board and end this year on a positive,” McIlroy said this week.
There will be a new champion on Sunday. American Brooks Koepka won last year but won’t defend and is giving up his membership on the European Tour.
This is a limited field event with McIlroy and 77 others teeing it up.
