Tom Edrington

Tom Edrington spent the first 10 years of his misguided youth as a sports writer for the Tampa Tribune. His career brought him face to face with many of sports greatest stars -- Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Muhammad Ali, Don Shula, countless Hall of Fame NFL stars, more PGA Tour players than he can count. In 1980 he was honored by the Golf Writers Association of America for writing the best news story that year, his coverage of Jack Nicklaus' U.S. Open victory at Baltusrol. Today, 36 years later, golf is still a great part of his life, thanks to competitive playing days and the wonderful people he has met on this fabulous journey.

It is kinda crushing that two on form putters like Cam and Sam WDd. I get it they both need some RnR but they need to do something to avoid this.

This events purse should go up more than most, maybe an extra year exemption, whatever it takes. The word 5th major is the most overused term in golf but Winning the worlds premier match play event imo is the single closest event to that; not that it should be.

I don’t care about tv ratings on Sundays or any nonsense like that. Winning the match play is huge. But unfortunately— with these two putting wizards out—it will be a lot easier. Again I get they both need breaks but man they seem to be leaving huge opportunities to ride their hot play and putt themselves in the drivers seat for a lot of awards later this year.

I get Rorys WD. The guy overthinks everything especially leading up to Augusta. Trying something new. But Rory has won the match play. This could have been the springboard he needed.

Hideki is always a mystery. But with half a billion coming his way thanks to his green jacket, he may be getting a bit fat catty now. Talk about not needing Saudi money. Not needing to play all the time. If he could have won his third different wgc with a win. That on its own would be pretty big feather in the cap.

Sadly we lost some names. But still plenty left. Still a great course. Still the best format. I’m excited.

Look forward to your preview Tom.
