Gotta be one of the coolest trophies in golf.
Who wouldn’t want The Giant Coffee Pot sitting on the mantle or in their trophy case?
Rory McIlroy shot 22-under par last year in Dubai to win it for the second time and he’s the odds-on favorite at this year’s Dubai Desert Classic that gets going on Thursday.
The great thing about the European Tour is that you can catch it on the tube in the evenings and McIlroy is must see TV, especially when he’s in Dubai, a place where he has been dominant to say the least.
He’s paired the first two rounds with Henrik Stenson and Louis Oosthuizen. And with all due respect to the Phoenix Open, that’s the best group in golf this week.
McIlroy’s debut came two weeks ago in Abu Dhabi where he and Stenson finished tied for third at 14-under behind winner Rickie Fowler.
McIlroy’s ball-striking was decent but his putting was showing signs of his off-season layoff.
Same for Stenson.
Good field, good course.
It’s Rory’s cup of tea, or should we say, his pot of coffee.
