Those mid-week reports from Reuters were right after all.
The news that Rory McIlroy would practice on Saturday at Whistling Straits came to fruition as the world’s No. 1 player did show up on the range at 10 a.m. then later played 18 holes on the site of this week’s PGA Championship.
McIlroy showed absolutley no ill effects from his ankle injury that cost him a shot at defending his British Open title and kept him out of the WGC Bridgestone at Firestone.
Todd Lewis of the Golf Channel was there following McIlroy and he saw that McIlroy looked just fine. In fact, he saw McIlroy running up some of the steeper hills at Whistling Straits.
McIlroy had hinted all week on his Instagram account that he was ready to play.
McIlroy should have plenty of time, five days to be exact, to knock the rust off his game.
In fact, McIlroy revealed to Lewis that he has already played 90 holes of golf prior to Saturday’s outing at Whistling Straits.
