Make room for Rory McIlroy in The Dog House.
The Saturday Showdown at the WGC Match Play between Rory-boy and El Tigre was looking like it would have a hum-dinger of a finish.
Rory worked his way back from three-down and was staring at easy birdie at worst on the 16th where Tiger Woods was doomed to make a par five.
Consider that Man-Mountain McIlroy launched a mind-boggling 395-yard drive, dead middle of the fairway and had something like a pitching wedge into the green. Easy birdie, right?
Nope, the Nerd Of Northern Ireland managed to hit one of the worst shots every by a highly-skilled professional. It sliced something like 40 yards into a dastardly lie that caused young Rory to launch his third all the way over the green, smack up against some railroad ties. The unplayable lie sent him back for a replay and he proceeded to dump that one in a bunker short of the green, looking totally like a 16-handicapper.
He went from cinch birdie and squaring the match to in-his-pocket and a two-up lead for Tiger. Of course Tiger closed it all out at 18 and sent Rory stomping to the clubhouse where he refused to talk to anyone wearing a badge that read “media.”
“See you at The Masters,” was the best young Rory could give them.
So, Rory can prep for The Masters in The Dog House. No media in there so he doesn’t have to worry about speaking to anyone.
