One of the “Tiger Woods Effects” on PGA Tour players is that a lot of the top players are spending more time in the gym, more time working on their bodies.
Harry Higgs and Joel Dahmen aren’t among them.
That was pretty evident when the two playing partners put on a Sunday (horror) Show on the raucous 16th green at the Phoenix Open.
There were a lot of happenings at 16, with 20,000 party-prone fans consuming massive quantities of beer and other adult beverages.
Hole-in-ones by Sam Ryder then Carlos Ortiz brought on an onslaught of beer cans, some full, some half-empty littering the green, the bunkers and surrounding areas.
The Ryder ace halted play for at least 15 minutes — took that long for a bunch of volunteers to collect the litter. Ortiz, not so much because that was around 10:30 Sunday morning before the alcohol consumption kicked into high great.
Then came Higgs and Dahmen. Higgs holed a 10-footer for a par save and immediately pulled up his shirt, exposing his Body By Budweiser. Dahmen then one-upped him, pulling his shirt off.
There’s been all sorts of op/ed (opinion/editorial) stuff written about the happenings at 16. Good for golf? Bad for golf? The “new age” of PGA Tour fans — it goes on and on.
What can’t be argued is the popularity of the Phoenix Open, which has drawn as many as 750,000 fans for the week. That’s a lot of eyeballs on golf.
The field was good this year with the finale coming down to a Scotty Scheffler-Patrick Cantlay playoff.
Great ending for Scheffler — not so much for Cantlay.
As for Dahmen and Higgs, well, you simply can’t “un-see” that.

I guess there was a 4th round of beer shower at 16 when JT made a chip in.
