J.P. Fitzgerald has been at Rory McIlroy’s side since the young talent from Northern Ireland turned pro back in 2008.
Thirteen PGA Tour wins, 13 European Tour wins and four majors later, McIlroy has apparently fired Fitzgerald.
The report came from the Reuters News Agency.
There hasn’t been a peep from McIlroy or anyone in his camp but the reports say McIlroy will have a new caddie on his bag at this week’s WGC-Bridgestone, the final tune-up before next week last major of the season — the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
It was in the Open Championship two weeks ago that McIlroy credited Fitzgerald for turning the tide of poor play by McIlroy with a few choice words.
Apparently there were some deeper, more ongoing issues between the two men.

After two knee replacements and a check from NBC/Golf Channel for the Open Championship, I think Bones has a great future on the ground with a mic in his hand rather than lugging a very heavy golf bag and listening to Rory pissing and moaning!

Actually Bob, how about the ‘forgotten caddie” — Joe Lacava???
